The Lady Ram Volleyball team had a clean sweep on Tuesday night defeating both Irving Nimitz and North Mesquite in the first matches of the year. The night was led by Seniors Eavan Taylor, Trixie Oche and Setter Biak Sung. Junior Joni Schnieder and Sophomore Kamyra Landry had breakout nights leading the team in kills. The Rams look to be a force this year with some incredibly athletic players making some amazing plays. The Rams look to continue the winning ways in the Garland ISD Varsity Tournament this Friday.
The Lady Rams JV volleyball team started off the 2017 season strong! On Tuesday night at home they defeated Irving Nimitz in two sets 25-18 and 25-23. JV also was able to come away with a win against North Mesquite after getting a slow start to begin the match. JV lost the first set 21-25 but took charge in the next two winning by scores of 25-21 and 25-16. Sophomore, Jenna Thomas lead the team in aces and assists.
Although 9A Lady Rams started out slow they showed great improvements throughout the 1st match against Irving Nimitz. Even though they lost both games, 19-25 they definitely made up for it when they played against N. Mesquite. Ariel Martinez’ serve gave them a 9 point lead and Ogechi Iwunze had 2 very successful spikes. The team’s suspenseful 15-12 last game resulted in a 2-1 win.
After marked improvement in each set of their first match, the Lady Rams won their first set of the year 25-22 against Irving Nimitz. In dramatic fashion, after leading for much of the set, the Rams found themselves tied with the Vikings at 22 all. With a clutch side-out on excellent passing by Mariana Orjuela, the Rams held serve and Angelica Santos closed the game strong. Berkner fell to Irving Nimitz 2-1 in both matches. They showed excellent signs of improvement across both matches. Berkner faces Thomas Jefferson High School this Friday at home. Please check the schedule for more details.
