Freshman Green drop physical game to Naaman

Thursday the Berkner Green team hosted Naaman in a very physical nightcap. The Rams scored first and took a 7-0 lead with an 88yd TD run by QB Daniel Vallejo. After Naaman countered to tie the score 7-7 Berkner punched their way down the field through the air. On the first play of the next drive Vallejo hit Slot Receiver Kobe Milligan over the middle of the field for the longest pass and reception of the year so far resulting in a first down deep in Naaman territory. A few plays later Vallejo pump-faked a short pass to his left, turned, and hit Receiver Max Bennett on a post for another Berkner TD and a 14-7 lead. The second half would become extremely physical and a single score by Naaman would mark the difference in the game as Berkner lost their first game of the season 22-14.

Berkner Freshman Green Win Opener vs Forney

The Berkner Freshman Green team kicked off the nightcap at 7p with an entire-game effort. After a little early back and forth Forney punched in the game’s first score and took a 7-0 lead on the Rams which lasted to halftime. But the second half would tell a different story. The Rams controlled the ball and used a strong ground game to fight back with the first touchdown of their 2017 season. RB Devin Joshua put the Rams on his back and pounded the middle of the field to put the Rams in scoring position where he completed the drive by punching the ball through the middle of the Forney defense and into the endzone. After a special teams miscue allowing the Jackrabbits to return the kickoff for a touchdown the Rams countered with more time-chewing offense and after driving the field again Slot Receiver Kobe Milligan found the front corner of the endzone for his first touchdown. It was then that the Ram defense would treat their fans to the 2 plays of the game with the first coming on an interception by MLB Brian Jaimes. The Rams offense would reward Jaimes by marching the ball to another Kobe Milligan touchdown and an 18-14 lead. The resilient Jackrabbit squad had time left to counter the Rams but it would be Jaimes stepping up again on the Ram defense by picking-off another pass and giving the Rams the control to end the game. The final score was Berkner 18 Forney 14. Your Green team players of the game were Brian Jaimes on Defense and Kobe Milligan plus Devin Joshua on Offense. Your Berkner freshmen will play host to Naaman Forest on Thursday September 7 at Berkner HS. Kickoffs are set for 530 & 7p. We hope to see you at the Rams 2017 home opener. GO RAMS!!!

The two teams played a close game through the first 2 1/2 quarters highlighted by a Max Bennett 59yd touchdown run. Also of note was the effort made by Xavieran Dews. Dews’ hard running kept the Rams in the game. In the end, the Jackrabbits took advantage of a few Ram miscues and came away with a 22-8 victory. Players of the game on offense were Max Bennett and Xavieran Dews and on defense Jalen Simpson.
