Berkner Freshman Football

Our Freshman played a great inter squad scrimmage on Saturday. As coaches we feel this group has put in good work and saw good results. This Friday August 25, 2017 your Berkner Ram Freshman Football team will scrimmage Sachse HS at Sachse at 530p. This is a structured practice to run plays and will not resemble a back and forth game-we will feature offensive and defensive focus periods. We hope to see you in the stands!!!!

Berkner v Skyline

Your Berkner Rams traveled to Dallas Skyline on Friday to close out the 2-game district set. Coming off their best hit performance of the season the Rams bats posted an additional 8 hits in this second affair. Unfortunately the Rams also left 5 men on base including squandering a 1-out triple by freshman Cole Hill in the top of the 5th inning. Senior Tommy Kramer and freshman Cole Hill each posted multiple hits with zero strikeouts. The Rams lost 4-3.

Skyline v Berkner

The Skyline Raiders traveled to Ram Ballpark Tuesday. Your Berkner Rams welcomed the Raiders with their biggest hit explosion of the season. After squandering a 2-out double by junior Garrett Randall in the bottom of the 1st inning the Rams struck with consecutive 1-out singles by senior Tommy Kramer and sophomore Grant Mootz. Two additional consecutive hits came after the second out of the inning by sophomore Nick McLemore and freshman Cole Hill. Consecutive hits score runs and Berkner closed the inning with two. The bottom of the 4th would see additional singles by Mootz, McLemore, and senior Jack Rouse while mixing in a HBP and walks for Hill, junior Elias Munoz, and Randall extending the Rams lead to 4-0 after 4 complete. With momentum firmly in hand the Rams continued their hitting ways in the bottom of the 5th inning as Kramer, Mootz, and McLemore would all reach base on singles and with a Skyline error in the mix the Rams would plate an additional 3 runs to close the inning at 7-0 which is also where the game would end. Your Berkner Ram players of the game were Grant Mootz and Nick McLemore who were both a perfect 3 for 3 (3 singles) from the dish.

JJ Pearce v Berkner

The JJ Pearce Mustangs traveled to Ram Ballpark on Friday. The Ram ball club honored their most inspirational teachers with a Teacher Appreciation pre-game where each teacher was escorted to the field by the baseball player that nominated them. They were each treated to a warm recognition by the fans, a team-signed baseball, and a free dinner at the game. Thanks teachers for everything you do!!!

As the game got underway on a beautiful Friday night both teams posted 3 scoreless innings. It was again, Berkner, who first broke the 0’s by posting individual runs in the 4th and 5th innings. Continue reading “JJ Pearce v Berkner”

Berkner v JJ Pearce

Last night your Ram baseball team traveled to the other side of 75 for a matchup with JJ Pearce. As has been the case recently the Rams jumped onto the Mustangs early. The Mustangs tried to score in the bottom of the first on a single to left field where senior Trey Verriere gloved the ground ball and fired a shot to sophomore catcher Grant Mootz beating the baserunner by several steps. In the top of the second senior Jordan Barr led off with a base hit and would score after a single by Mootz, staking the Rams to a 1-0 lead. JJP would respond in the bottom of the same frame knotting the score at 1. Our Ram hurler, junior Elias Munoz would battle 4 strong innings and platoon with senior Jack Rouse to keep the Rams within striking distance of the Mustangs. Ultimately, the Rams would struggle at the plate with 12 k’s registered to the Mustang pitchers and the game went to the ponies 4-1. Both clubs face-off again Friday at 730p at Ram ballpark.

Berkner v WT White

The Rams traveled to WT White on Friday for the second half of their 2-game series with the Longhorns. After a great pregame talk by long-time Longhorn baseball coach David Shepherd the Rams offense came out on fire. Three hits in the inning by freshman Cole Hill, junior Garrett Randall, and senior Jordan Barr staked the Rams to a 2-0 lead after the top of the 1st inning. After 3 quick outs the Rams returned to the plate and combined a walk by sophomore Nick McLemore, hits by junior Elias Munoz and senior Jack Rouse, with a defensive error to add 4 more runs on the board and take a commanding 6-0 lead into the bottom of the second. The WT White magic took over from there however and the Longhorns cruised to 5 consecutive innings with at least 1 run including 6 in the 4th and 5 in the 5th to take the game 15-7 and the season series 2-0. The Rams stand at 1-3 in district play.

WT White v Berkner

Last night witnessed a great battle between starting pitchers of both ball clubs. For the Rams, senior Jordan Barr manned the hill and pitched a great 6 1/3 innings. The action began in the top of the first inning when Barr struck out his first and third batters faced. Unfortunately, he also committed an error fielding a bouncing ball off the bump that would put a man on base who would eventually score. As they so often have this year the Rams found fortune in the first inning as well. Senior Trey Verriere led off the Berkner bottom half with a single. The Longhorns shortstop would help Berkner’s cause with his own fielding error and senior Jordan Barr would make him pay by following up with a base hit single. After 1 inning of play the Rams were up 2-1. The pitching duel ensued and three scoreless frames were tallied by both teams showing nice defense. In the top of the 5th the Longhorns would plate a single run making the score 2-2. In the bottom of the 6th the Rams responded with a run of their own. Barr registered his second hit of the night and senior Tommy Kramer would lay down a very good sacrifice bunt to put Barr into scoring position. Continue reading “WT White v Berkner”

Lake Highlands v Berkner

Well baseball fans, it was a gloomy spring break Friday night for your Berkner Rams ballclub. And would’ve thought? After the first inning of play Berkner was up on the Wildcats 3-0. After two quick outs in the bottom of the first junior Elias Munoz stepped to the plate and registered his first of two hits in the game with a single. Junior Garrett Randle followed Munoz with a hard single of his own to right field where a two-base error was registered by the right-fielder as he mishandled the ball allowing Randall to reach 3rd base and Munoz to score. Senior Jack Rouse stepped in and drew a walk and senior Jordan Barr followed with a HBP loading the bases for senior Tommy Kramer. Kramer put the ball into play to the Wildcat second baseman who committed the second LH error of the inning allowing Randall and Rouse to score. In all, the Rams scored three times with 2 outs and took a 3-0 lead into the top of the second inning. From there it was a different story as LH would total 9 hits for the game and be aided by 10, yes 10 total Ram errors in the next 6 innings. LH would draw the early season split with the Rams taking the game 14-4. Your Rams take on the traditionally playoff bound W.T. White Longhorns Tuesday at Ram Ballpark. The JV first pitch is at 5p and Varsity at 730p.

Berkner v Lake Highlands – 9-6A District Opener

Scheduled for their district home opener on Tuesday the Rams and Wildcats agreed to switch Tue/Fri dates because of ongoing construction at Ram Ballpark. In doing so the Rams faced a seasoned Wildcat squad at their home field where historically the Wildcats have won many, many contests. Senior Jordan Barr was tabbed the starter for the Rams and the battery included sophomore Grant Mootz. Consecutive walks to start the game were issued to Ram freshman Cole Hill and senior Trey Verriere. Batting in the 4-hole junior Garrett Randall would flare a 2-out 2-strike pitch to no man’s land in right center field where the Wildcat right fielder would commit an error letting the ball drop to the ground off his glove allowing Verriere to score the first run of the contest. Barr, the Ram southpaw, would start off throwing consecutive innings of 10 & 7 pitches, respectively, and the Ram bats would reward him with another Berkner run in the top of the 3rd inning.
