Coppell Takes Two from Berkner

On Thursday the Rams traveled down State Champions Parkway to Cowboy Field to face Coppell in game 1 of a Thur/Fri series. Sr Elias Munoz took the mound for the Rams and struggled in the first 2 innings giving up 6 runs on 7 hits which proved to be plenty for the Cowboys as they yielded only a single hit, a double, to Soph Cole Hill in the top of the 7th inning for a 6-0 win.

On Friday the Rams hosted Coppell at Berkner Ram Ballpark. Sr Garrett Randall stepped up to face the Cowboys and for 5 innings kept them scoreless with the game tied at 0. The Rams fought the Cowboys hard and both teams had to deal with nature’s resolve and 2 lightning delays. The Rams posted a single run in the bottom of the 5th inning when Soph Cole Hill led off reaching on an error by the third baseman. Jr Nick McLemore followed with a single and Jr Edwin Silguero laid down a sacrifice bunt to move them to 2nd & 3rd base with 1 out. Soph Alexis Munoz then battled an 8-pitch at bat that finished with a single up the middle that would plate Hill but see McLemore out at the plate trying to follow him home. With a 1-0 lead the Rams would allow a single Coppell run when nature decided to intervene for a third time. With both coaches agreeing that enough was enough the game would see itself finished on Saturday. As play resumed Coppell plated 5 additional runs to finish the top of the 6th inning and then closed out the 7th inning and game two 6-1.

Rams beat FW Northside 18-8 in Non-District Matchup

On a bitterly cold Saturday the Rams hosted a non-district matchup with FW Northside HS. With windchill temperatures hovering in the mid 20’s Berkner warmed up the game early posting 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Steers responded with a single run in the top of the second but as the second frame rolled to the bottom half so the Berkner bats exploded with their most aggressive hit barrage of the season. After retiring the first Berkner batter of the inning Berkner responded with 7 consecutive hits going single, single, double, single, triple, double, double, and totaling 10 hits for the inning. Mixing in a couple walks Berkner scored 10 runs in the frame. The two teams would trade a few runs in the next 2 innings but in the bottom of the sixth Berkner would plate the final run of the game, taking it 18-8.

Berkner Splits Skyline Week

On Tuesday your Berkner Rams traveled south to Skyline HS. After yielding a run to the Raiders in the bottom of the second inning the Rams responded in the top of the fourth inning posting 2 runs of their own. Berkner carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning when Skyline was able to push across 2 more of their own and take a 3-2 lead. Berkner rallied to tie the game at 3 in the top of the seventh inning but fell on a walk-off base hit 4-3.

Friday brought the Raiders to Berkner Ram Ballpark. Friday also brought some nasty weather and several lightning delays. Berkner turned the table on Skyline in almost the same fashion as Skyline did to Berkner on Tuesday. In the top of the second inning Skyline scored the first run of the game. Berkner responded in the bottom of the same frame with a run of their own and there the game stood tied 1-1 through several hours of lightning delays and stormy weather. As the game resumed so did the fireworks. Skyline scored first after the weather delay with 2 runs in the top of the sixth inning and carried a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Sr Elias Munoz led off the inning reaching on an error by the Skyline third baseman. Soph Bryce Drayton then did what all baseball players should do as he found his way to first base thanks to a hit by pitch. With runners now on first and second and no outs Sr Garrett Randall walked on 5 pitches to load the bases. 3 of the next 4 Berkner batters would prove devastating to Skyline. Soph Cole Hill stood in and with an aggressive approach found himself battling the Raider pitcher from behind in the count but battling nonetheless. Through a 7-pitch at bat Hill walked forcing in a run and bringing the Rams to within 1. Jr Nick McLemore then stepped in and by all accounts had the most competitive at bat of the evening. McLemore took a first pitch strike followed by 3 consecutive balls. Then he proceeded to foul off the next three pitches battling through a full count and finally taking ball 4 on the eighth pitch of the at bat tying the game at 3 runs apiece. After Jr Edwin Silguero struck out Soph Alexis Munoz stepped in with the bases loaded, 1 out, and the opportunity to win the game for the Rams. On a 2-2 pitch Munoz drove a hard hit ball to the right of the Skyline shortstop forcing him out of position enough to give Randall at third all the space he needed to slide home safely under the throw and give the Rams the victory 4-3.

Rams drop series to JJP 3-1 & 8-1

Monday your Berkner Ram Varsity Baseball Team hosted JJP. The Rams gave their guest all they could handle posting a 1-run lead in the bottom of the 1st that stood until the top of the 4th when a 2-base error allowed the Mustangs their leadoff at 2nd. After a nifty fielder’s choice rundown by the Rams getting the lead runner out the Mustangs were able to advance a runner to 2nd then third on a deep fly ball. A single then drew JJP even with the Rams where the game stood deadlocked until the top of the 8th where 3 hits and an error yielded a 3-1 lead for the Mustangs which would prove to be the final.

On a short Easter week the two teams matched up again Thursday night. The Mustangs played host to the Rams. The Rams were able to move their leadoff hitter Soph Bryce Drayton to 2b in the top of the 1st but recorded an out at 3b when the throw from the catcher beat Drayton to the 3b bag. In the top of the third Sr Elias Munoz would score the Rams only run on an overthrow by the JJP catcher. The Mustangs took advantage of a few Rams miscues in the 1st inning and would limit the Rams to a single hit on the evening taking the game 8-1.

Rams drop to WTW 6-4 then beat Bryan Adams 6-4

The Ram Varsity Baseball squad played WTWhite Friday and once again it was a nail-biter. The Rams battled all night and had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the 7th. Unfortunately, the boys came up a few bases short of the victory and dropped to WTWhite 6-4. Saturday at noon the Rams returned to Ram Ballark for a non-district game with Bryan Adams. After falling behind 1-0 early the Rams fought back highlighted by a triple by Soph Bryce Drayton and pulled out a victory 6-4. For Good Friday week and because of potentially wet weather the Rams will play JJPearce on Monday at Ram Ballpark and the again on Thursday at Mustang Field. Both dates will feature JV at 5p and Varsity at 730p.

Rams Rally to Force Extras-Fall Late

If you haven’t been out to watch the Rams play then you’re missing some great baseball. The Rams fell to 0-3 for the district season with a 7-6 loss at WT White Tuesday. This was the third district game in the 2018 campaign for the Rams. This was also the third one-run loss, two of which have been in extra innings. Tonight WT White took a 6-1 lead into the top of the 7th inning. Senior Sam Sullivan, DH, had the first rbi of the night for the Rams and would also be the spark to a 5-run 7th inning drawing the Rams even and putting the Longhorns into panic mode. After forcing the game into extra innings the Longhorns were able to get back to the top of their lineup where their best hitter was able to punch a hit through for the win. Standout players were Sr Sam ‘Contact’ Sullivan and Elias Munoz. The Rams will play WT White again this Friday at Ram Ballpark at 730p.

Rams fall 1 run short

Your Berkner Ram Varsity Baseball Team played another fantastic baseball game last night at Ram Ballpark. Seniors Garrett Randall and Elias Munoz combined efforts on the bump to limit LH to 5 hits over 7 innings. The two seniors also combined for 3 of Berkner’s 5 hits for the game. In the bottom of the 7th the Rams had the tying run on second base in the form of Sophomore Bryce Drayton and Munoz at the dish. A well-hit ball and base path hustle created a bang-bang play at first base that unfortunately did not go Berkner’s way. LH squeaked out a last-minute 3-2 victory. Berkner will next face WT White on Tuesday March 20 at WTW at 5p and again Friday March 23 at Ram Ballpark at 730p. Come out and see your Rams play great baseball!

Ram Baseball falls to LH in extras

Your Berkner Rams entered 2018 district play last night at Lake Highlands. Standout Senior Elias Munoz pitched 6 complete perfect innings for the Rams facing the minimum 18 batters and the Rams took a 4-0 lead into the 7th. Unfortunately, in relief, the Rams couldn’t hold the lead. LH tied the game in the bottom of the 7th and plated a run in the bottom of the 8th to take the game. The series continues Friday at Berkner HS with a 5p start for JV and a 730p start for Varsity.
